Nellie Riddle, 98

Nellie R. Riddle, age 98, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Centreville.
She was born March 6, 1920, in Bronson, a daughter of the late Joe and Rose (Hudson) Harmon.
Nellie resided in Michigan for the first 35 years of her life, when she moved to California, where she lived for 30 years, returning to Sturgis in 1985.
On Nov. 30, 1940, she married Wilbur McLauchlin in Sturgis. He died in 1952. She later married Ivin Riddle, who preceded her in death in 1985.
She had been employed by Kirsch Company in Sturgis for 12 years and while living in California managed motel and apartment buildings for 30 years.
Nellie was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. For 25 years, five days a week, she volunteered her time in managing the coffee room at Maple Towers Apartments and also for 25 years she took on the responsibility of taking pictures of residents and happenings at Maple Towers. Nellie loved cooking and baking and two of her signature dishes were her peanut butter fudge and Greek chicken, which will be missed by many.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Switzer of Goodyear, Ariz., Tandra (Wayne) Hinkley of Sturgis, Vicky (Darwin) Bordine of Sacramento, Calif., Gary Riddle of Redding, Calif., Judy Robinson of Yreka, Calif., and Dawn (Lee) Giulietti of Dunsmuir, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Pendelton of Sturgis; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a son, Roger McLauchlin; a grandson, David Hinkley; a sister, Cecilia “Sally” LaVinski; and three brothers, Carl Harmon, Edward Harmon and Raymond Harmon.
Cremation has taken place. Private burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations be directed to Holy Angels Catholic Church. Envelopes are available at Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S.Nottawa St., Sturgis.
