Alan Weske, 70

It is with great sadness we announce that, on Oct. 6, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family, Alan Eugene Weske went to be with The Lord.
Alan was born Sept. 16, 1948, in Sturgis, a son of Edward Arnold Weske and Evelyn Teresa (Eichler) Weske. He graduated from Sturgis High School in 1966, then attended Glen Oaks Community College, where he graduated in June 1970 with an Associates of Business degree. He worked for General Motors, Grumman Olson, Syndicate Systems in Middlebury, Ind., and various other small jobs.
On Feb. 1, 1974, he married Sherrilyn Short. Together, they had three children. After 29 years of marriage, they parted ways, but always remained friends. On May 23, 2003, he married Tracy (McFadden) Weske. He was her “”Teddy Bear.””
Alan is survived by his wife; his brother Edward “”Ward”” (Sherry) Weske; his ex-wife, Sherri; and three children, Kristie (Adrian) Scherer, Kara (Kevin) Miller and Keith Weske. He also has four grandchildren, Elijah and Cristian Miller, and Gavin and Easton Scherer.
He cherished his family. He also enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions play football, taking long vacations by train or car, long drives with no particular destination at times, playing softball and poker. He also loved the casino, where he sometimes would sneak away to with his son-in-law Kevin, and “”his”” money.
Christmas was his favorite holiday and he always decorated his house in Colon, the house always being his “big” project, constantly working on it and making changes from the day he purchased it.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Tobi Bertzyk; his wife, Tracy’s sister, for coming down from Wisconsin to help him and Tracy in his time of need; and also to health care workers at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, The Laurels of Bedford in Battle Creek and ProMedia Coldwater Regional Hospital in Coldwater for all their love, support and care.
Alan did not want the “fuss” of a large funeral, so he chose to donate his body to medical research at the University of Michigan to help their medical students.
U-M honors donors yearly, which, in the hearts of his family, is a huge blessing and honor.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon, with a luncheon immediately following at M&M Grill in Colon.
Dad, the fight and struggle you endured for so long is over now and you can rest with God! We will love and miss you, Daddy, until we meet again in Heaven.
“Love you later!” as you always said.
