Commissioners approve Child Care Fund budget

St. Joseph County commissioners last week approved renewal of a budget for the county’s Child Care Fund.

Family Court director Tom Robertson and juvenile court judge David Tomlinson told commissioners the $1.4 million budget is an increase of about $400,000 from 2017 due to adjustments based on historical expenditure.

The state will fund half of that amount, Robertson said, noting the fund’s fiscal year is consistent with the state’s, which started its 12-month cycle Oct. 1.

The Child Care Fund in covers costs related to family foster care, institutional care, in-home care and juvenile justice services.
