Colon approves Dollar General development

Colon Village Council members voted earlier this month to approve development of a Dollar General store at the east end of town.

It is to be located at the northwest corner of East State Street and North Burr Oak Road. With the council’s approval, zoning administrator Doug Kuhlman said the next step will be to issue the Tennessee-based company a building permit.

The only concerns aired at an October public hearing were issues related to water run-off and whether Michigan Department of Transportation officials were aware of the project because of it being along a state roadway.

Kuhlman said he expects the store to be about 9,100-square-feet, consistent in size with a Dollar General slated for development in Mottville Township.
