Man arrested after hitting patrol car

A 47-year-old man was arrested last week after the vehicle he was driving struck a Cass County patrol vehicle.

The incident occurred after authorities had stopped another vehicle for a speeding violation. The driver’s door was open and an unrelated vehicle driven by Spencer Mourning of Dowagiac struck the deputy’s vehicle.

Pokagon Tribal Police were assisting the traffic stop and were able to pursue and stop Mourning, who was arrested for suspicion of operating under the influence, possession of an open container, marijuana possession and leaving the scene of an accident.

Deputies determined that the driver of the first car, Patrick McMeeken, 31, of Dowagiac, was driving a stolen vehicle, leading to his arrest, in addition to being in possession of meth and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to authorities.
