Police investigate safe theft

An elderly Branch County man was the victim of a fraud inspection that resulted in the theft of his safe.

Michigan State Police troopers said the incident occurred mid-morning last week at a residence in the 900 block of South Fremont Road in California Township.

The suspects preoccupied the elderly resident by asking to inspect his electric service. It is believed multiple white male suspects were involved and distracted the resident while other suspects took the safe out of the home, authorities said.

The safe is described as an older model, 2-foot-by-2-foot in size and brown in color.

The victim said the suspects were white males. Meanwhile, neighbors report that a white Ford Taurus was seen around the residence during the time frame of the theft.
