Volleyball teams head to state finals

Two area high school volleyball teams have made it to the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s final four in Battle Creek.

Bronson High School earned the right to play in its fourth consecutive state final in Division 3, as the Vikings on Thursday defeated Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central in five sets. Bronson has won the Division 3 state championship crown three consecutive years.

The Vikings will play Unionville-Sebewaing at noon Saturday for the state title.

Meanwhile, Mendon High School will try to earn a spot into the state final bracket when it plays Southfield Christian High School at noon today in Division 4 action.

The winner will go on to play the victor of today’s 2 p.m. contest between Leland and Carney-Nadeau high schools.

Saturday’s Division 4 championship game starts at 10 a.m. at the Kellogg Arena.
