Animal Control selling buttons to raise funds

St. Joseph County Animal Control Advisory Board members are hoping the public will take interest in a fundraiser it is hosting.

The group is selling buttons that display an illustrated dog and cat, as well as two messages: “Stop Animal Abuse” and “Spay and Neuter.”

Kristina Eaton, secretary and treasurer of the board, said the goal is to raise funds to address needs at animal control’s Centreville kennel as well as spay/neuter services.

There is no price for the buttons but Eaton said a $5 minimum donation is being requested. She said sales are a bit slow, as a little more than 100 have been sold so far.

She said Armstrong International has stepped up by taking a batch of 50 to sell at its Three Rivers plant. She hopes other businesses with a number of employees in the county consider a similar course of action.

The buttons are available at a variety of locations, including animal control headquarters, Edward Jones in Sturgis, Lake Area Veterinary Group, Commission On Aging sites in Three Rivers and Sturgis, the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce and Sturgis Bank and Trust.
