County searching for new finance director

St. Joseph County will begin the process of searching for a new finance director, as Ryan Post announced he has accepted another job.

Post, who joined the county in July 2017, has accepted the role of Van Buren County’s finance director/deputy county administrator. Post lives less than 15 minutes from the Van Buren County Courthouse and said a shorter drive was a minor but attractive incentive to the offer.

He estimated he’ll save nearly $3,000 a year in gas from driving to work in Paw Paw instead of Centreville. The greater appeal, however, was the prospect of eventually serving as Van Buren County administrator, he said.

Post, whose current salary is $88,400, said he was not looking for a job change. A shift in county government in Van Buren County, however, created an opening for the non-elected position. Post will start the job the first week in January at a starting annual salary of $91,000.

Post’s last day will be Dec. 27. He will transition from a county with an $18 million annual budget to one that is more populous and operates on a $25 million budget.
