Fred Earl Edwards, age 90, passed away Nov. 17, 2018, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was born June 13, 1928, in Detroit, the only child of Chester and Lena Edwards. He was raised in Detroit, where he participated in both hockey and football. After graduation from Eastern High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was drafted to serve in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He felt it was an honor to serve his country. During his deployment at Camp Atterbury in Columbus, Ind., he met his future wife, Ramona Willadene Greenlee, and was happily married 51 years before her passing Oct. 2, 2004.
Fred is survived by his current wife of 11 years, Melody Edwards of Rockport, Texas; his four children, Debra Edwards, Fred (Linda) Edwards Jr., Nancy (Wayne) Harmon and Thomas (Renee) Edwards; grandkids Chrissy (Keith) Wilson, Julie VanZee, Sarah Edwards, Stephanie Edwards, Jennifer (Ryan) Barth, Matt Edwards, Tyler (Anja) Harmon, Brady Harmon, Grace Edwards and Faith Edwards; great-grandkids Tyler, Jacob and Liam (Chrissy) Wilson, Xander and Zane (Julie) Perrey and Kennedy (Tyler) Harmon.
Fred’s work career had many different avenues, including Arthur Murray dance instructor in Washington, D.C., and operations manager at Harrisville Tool in Harrisville. Fred found his passion for sales where he sold industrial lubricants for WL Spencer, Witco Chemical and was a founding partner of Oak International in 1973 in Sturgis until his retirement in 1999.
Fred was a life member of NRA and a 63-year member of Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Mason. Fred also was a member of the Scottish Rite and Murat Temple in Indianapolis.
Fred was a wonderful father, grandfather, husband and friend. He had a zest for life and wanted to experience all that it had to offer. He loved to learn, travel, enjoyed good food and, in his day, dance. You always knew where you stood with him. He learned from others and others learned from him. He impacted so many lives.
There will be a graveside service June 14, 2019, at Huron Cemetery in Huron, Ind., to lay his ashes to rest. On June 15, 2019, we will celebrate Fred’s 90 years of life.
