After graduation from Eastern High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was drafted to serve in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He felt it was an honor to serve his country. During his deployment at Camp Atterbury in Columbus, Ind., he met his future wife, Ramona Willadene Greenlee, and was happily married 51 years before her passing Oct. 2, 2004.
