Ginger, Boughton, 84

Mildred Virginia “Ginger” (Hagen) Boughton, age 84, a former longtime Burr Oak resident, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2018, at the home of her granddaughter in Reading.
She was born Sept. 15, 1934, in Muldrow, Okla.,a daughter of the late Andrew Fred and Nannie Marie (Tankesley) Koett.
Ginger resided for many years in Burr Oak and in Mendon for 16 years.
On Nov. 7, 1953, she married Ansel Lavern Hagen at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak. He died Dec. 18, 1983. On March 30, 1990, she married Kenneth D. Boughton in Sturgis. He died March 2, 2006.
Ginger found true happiness in helping others. She had been employed as a nurse’s aid at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis for more than 30 years and for several years at Fairview Nursing Home in Centreville. She also worked in the kitchen of Sturgis Hospital for several years.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fishing, gardening and cooking, and loved time spent with her children, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, Michael Hagen of Sturgis, Gary (Phyllis) Hagen of Bronson and Roger (Jeannie) Hagen of Burr Oak; two daughters, Dolores Brown of Walkerville and Lynda Hagen of Sturgis; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Fern Burgess of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a grandson; and two half-brothers.
Family and friends will be received from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. The Rev. Kurt Kuhlmann of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
