More than 80 employees at the International Automotive Components plant in Mendon are losing their jobs.
The news came Friday, according to WWMT.
Julie Noyes, IAC communications director, said the company eliminated the jobs because of a General Motors program that is being phased out. She added in a statement that the company does not have replacement business to fill the void, making the reductions unavoidable.
Many workers had anticipated the latest round of layoffs, according to Shawn Swihart, of United Auto Workers Local 503. The union represents more than 300 people at the Mendon site.
Many of the hourly jobs at the plant pay in the neighborhood of $15 an hour.
IAC specializes in injection molded interior parts such as dashboards, consoles and door panels.
