Residents can now renew CPLs online

Michigan State Police has announced that Michigan residents with an existing concealed-pistol license can now renew their license online at www.michigan.gov/CPLrenewal.

Online renewal requires a personal identification number. In addition, if a CPL holder’s renewal notification letter does not contain a PIN, they may request a new renewal notification letter directly from the county clerk who issued the CPL.

St. Joseph County Clerk Lindsay Oswald said her office will process renewals online for county residents, a courtesy to residents who may not have internet access.

She noted, too, that first-time CPL applicants must still apply in-person at their county clerk’s office.

Statewide there are more than 640,000 active CPLs. Once issued, a CPL is valid for up to five years.
