More information regarding Sturgis Hospital’s next course of action following Monday’s dismissal of Rob LaBarge as CEO has been provided by John Mayer, chairman of the hospital board.
Mayer will oversee daily operations until an interim leader can be found and he has offered to serve in the role without compensation.
He said the board will first seek a purchaser or a partnership. Second on the list is a successor to the CEO’s position. On Tuesday, Mayer met with hospital department heads and is working toward a meeting with the physician staff.
Everything is in limbo, but the hospital, its staff and administrators will get through the situation, Mayer said.
Mayer is owner of Mayer Tool & Engineering in Sturgis.
LaBarge in late November announced the closing of the birthing center and other divisions of the hospital, prompting a public outcry against the measures.
