Commissioners hear road commission report

The St. Joseph County Road Commission has received strong response to the 50/50 matching funds it has made available for township road repair, managing director John Lindsey reported to commissioners at their meeting last week.

So far, $721,000 in matching funds have come in from townships interested in participating.

The road commission had allocated $750,000 for its portion of the matching program, an increase from last year’s $500,000.

As for Constantine Road, commissioners would like to repair the segment from Mintdale Road to Featherstone Road this year; the estimated project cost is over $250,000.

The stretch of road is in both Constantine and Florence townships; the road commission has a signed contract with Constantine Township for $50,000, but does not have one from Florence Township to date.
