County commission recognizes area veteran

A resolution honoring a St. Joseph County veteran was approved by the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners last week.

In recognition of his impending 100th birthday, Richard Freeman was honored during Tuesday’s meeting.

Freeman was born Feb. 17, 1919, in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from May 1941 to October 1945. He is the recipient of six Bronze Star awards, a Good Conduct Medal and a Bronze Star Medal.

Freeman would go on to own and operate Freeman Manufacturing in Sturgis.

The proclamation will be presented to Freeman at an upcoming party honoring his milestone birthday.
