Free Ride Home transports 14 people

Fourteen people took advantage of the 11th annual New Year’s Eve Free Ride Home program over a six-hour period ending at 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Offered by the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority in conjunction with more than a dozen business sponsors, Free Ride Home saw 11 passengers picked up by the Three Rivers-based bus and three passengers boarded the Sturgis-based vehicle.

The 14 total passengers were two more than what the CTA transported a year ago.

Agency director Susan Vosmik said she will recommend the board considers keeping the program alive at the end of 2019. In the meantime, she said she will inquire about a similar arrangement being made available for St. Patrick’s Day and the night before Thanksgiving.
