Nancy Jane Maystead, age 84, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday evening January 10, 2019 at Sturgis Hospital.
She was born July 24, 1934 in Sturgis Township, daughter of the late LeRoy and Mildred I. (Clark) Phillips.
Nancy was a lifelong Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1952.
On October 20, 1956 she married John H. Maystead at the Mintdale Women’s Club in Sturgis.
Nancy owned and operated the Off the Wall wallpaper shop in Centreville until her retirement.
She had been active in scouting serving as a Den Mother. She enjoyed knitting and over the years had knitted many hats and mittens for area mitten trees. Nancy loved time spent with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years: John; one daughter: Peri Maystead of Sturgis; three sons: Douglas (Lisa Thornton) Maystead of Constantine, Michael (Jennifer Allen) Maystead of Palo Alto, California and Patrick Maystead of Sturgis; two grandchildren: Christopher Maystead and Laura Maystead both of Palo Alto, California.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no services.
The Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes is entrusted with the arrangements.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Maystead’s memory consider St. Joseph County Animal Control, 652 E. Main St., Centreville, MI 49032.
