The chair of a board that oversees mental-health services in St. Joseph County resigned Tuesday.
Tim Carmichael, who took over as head of the 12-member Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services Board in 2016, cited dissatisfaction with a personnel issue as the impetus for his decision.
At the onset of Tuesday’s monthly meeting, Carmichael elaborated on an issue that involved an employee who had not been paid in four weeks due to an internal oversight. The person in question also is the caregiver for his son, who receives CMH services.
Carmichael, a 70-year-old Sturgis resident, said he was incensed at the nonchalant replies he received from the people responsible for the situation and those whose job it was to correct it.
In addition to Carmichael leaving the board, former board member Don Eaton turned in his resignation as well. He was not present Tuesday. Meanwhile, former county commissioner John Dobberteen, whose term was not to end until March of 2020, was removed when his tenure on the county board of commissioners ended Dec. 31.
