After just three months into his term, Carl Thornton has stepped down as president of the Colon Village Council.
Thornton, who owns Five Star Pizza and other properties in downtown Colon, said he had a recent dispute with one of the village council members, but the crux of his decision comes from what he perceives as the board’s lack of concern for the village’s finances.
Thornton said he doesn’t expect every board member to completely understand finances, but he does expect the majority of the board to recognize the potential consequences if bills are not paid due to financial mismanagement.
Thornton said he decided to step down after recognizing that he could be singled out in the future for problems as a result of the board’s lackadaisical treatment of the municipality’s finances.
Village council members were expected to assemble for a special meeting Monday to discuss how to fill Thornton’s vacancy as head of the seven-member panel.
I guess he is too busy to have more stress from financial mismanagement.
