Henry (Hank) Leonard Schultz, age 86, of Sturgis, went to his final resting place with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019.
He was born Oct. 27, 1932, in Chicago, a son of the late Henry L. and Caroline J. (Chelminski) Schultz.
Henry graduated from St. Ignatious High School in 1950. He then joined the U.S. Navy as a radio operator from 1952 to 1956 and proudly served on the USS Charles R. Ware DD865.
On Jan. 25, 1958, he married Nancy Campagna in Chicago. In 1970, they moved their family to Sturgis to open Sturgis Paneling and Remodeling with his business partner, Bill De Roche. In 1976, Henry sold his share of the business and opened Retail Warehouse in Bronson. He later moved the store to Sturgis, where it remains today. He was an exceptional businessman and built lifelong friendships with fellow entrepreneurs and customers over the years.
When he wasn’t working, Henry enjoyed attending his Navy reunions every year, taking his wife Nancy to Las Vegas and various casinos and volunteering for the Sturgis High School football chain gang. After his retirement in 2012, he and Nancy enjoyed spending their time together and with family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy; three children, Frank (Mary Kay) Schultz, Carl Schultz and Cindy (Brad) Wells, all of Sturgis; grandchildren Carissa (Chris) Harper, Kaitlynn Schultz, Sandy (Conor) Shearer, Carl Schultz Jr. and Nancy Schultz, and Hunter Wells; great-grandchildren Jack and Emma Jean Harper, Ariana Schultz, and Piper and Lola Shearer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his only brother, Harold Schultz.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
A funeral Mass celebrating the life of Henry L. Schultz Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 50 N-100 E, LaGrange, Ind., with the Rev. Father J. Steele, celebrant.
Private Interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, with full military honors conferred by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
Memorial donations may be directed to Full Circle Home Health Care or Three Rivers Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
