Linda Vander Mei, age 85, passed away on Monday, Jan. 28, 2019 at her home in Three Rivers. She was born in Harkema, Friesland in The Netherlands. On June 9, 1956 she married Evert Vander Mei.
She is survived by three children, Gary (Chris) Vander Mei, Gus Vander Mei, Theresa (Ken) Rondeau; five grandchildren, Jenny (Daniel) Hill, Chad, Max and Sam Vander Mei, Brent Rondeau, and one great-grandchild, Kinsley Hill.
Linda and her husband grew up and survived Nazi occupation. They immigrated with their two oldest children in early 1960s and settled in the Grand Rapids area, completing their family with one more child. They became naturalized citizens in 1967. Linda and Evert were members of the Family Motor Coach Association and Michigan Knights of the Highway since the 1980s. They enjoyed spending time with all the friends they made through this group. In 2017, Linda and Evert moved in with their son, Gary and his family in Three Rivers.
A celebration of life gathering will be held Monday, Feb. 4, 2019 at Gary & Chris’ home from 2 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Three Rivers Hospice. Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
