Thelma L. Smith, age 85, of Sturgis, passed away Monday evening, February 11, 2019 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born January 26, 1934 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Homer and Pearl (Brown) Carter.
Thelma resided most of her life in Sturgis with the exception of the several years she lived in Vicksburg.
She was married to Gerald Smith who preceded her in death.
Thelma was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed playing Bingo and cards, loved life in general and was happiest when she was surrounded by her family.
She is survived by two daughters: Debbie McKee of Pierceton, Indiana and Karen (Mel) Miller of Angola; one son: Thomas (Lisa) McKee of LaGrange, and 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters: Carol Baldwin and Judy Robinson; two sisters: Mary Euler and Lauretta Hentzel and three brothers: Homer “Jim” Carter, Robert Carter and Richard Carter.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. Private graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date.
