Walk for Warmth raises more than $10,000

Saturday’s Walk for Warmth, the 34th annual fundraiser, raised more than $10,000 for St. Joseph County.

With a final tally of $10,316, the amount will be matched by Consumers Energy.

The one-mile walk is Community Action’s sole fundraiser each year. Money raised is allocated to help low-income families pay their utility bills when they fall on hard financial times.

Event organizers said all funds raised locally stay local.

Dawn McDonald, Community Action Director of Human Resources, gave special recognition to Colon resident Nancy Percival. McDonald said Percival is an integral part of raising money in St. Joseph County.

Last year’s Walk for Warmth donations helped 20 households in St. Joseph County.
