Andy Nichols, 35

Andrew Scott Nichols, age 35, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, in Sherman Township.
He was born July 6, 1983, in Kalamazoo, a son of Karen Nichols. Andy resided most of his life in Sturgis.
He was currently employed by Abbott Laboratories in Sturgis. He also had worked several other jobs over the years, including VCI, Walmart, Meijer, Morgan Olson and McDonald’s, all in Sturgis, and Leer Corporation in Mendon.
Andy was highly active in Special Olympics, where he was a member of the two-time state qualifying basketball team, competed and completed a triathlon in 2004 and was a member of the Olympic Torch Run from Three Rivers to Centreville. He also was active in Boy Scouting and 4-H. Andy loved fishing, swimming, camping, gardening and nearly any activity that involved the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Nichols of Flemingsburg, Ky.; three sons, Xavier James Nichols and twin-sons Austin Scott Nichols and Mason Lee Nichols; his parents, Karen and David Slawinski of Sturgis; a brother, Christopher David Slawinski of Sturgis; grandparents Wally and Doris Nichols of Sturgis and Stanley Slawinski of Manistee; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jeremy Michael Nichols; and a grandmother, Frances Slawinski.
In accordance with family wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Andrew Scott Nichols will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Sturgis. The Rev. James Pearson will officiate.
Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, is entrusted with arrangements.
Memorial donations to the funeral home would be appreciated to help with expenses.
