Howe Military Academy’s Board of Trustees has announced the school will not reopen for the 2019-20 academic year.
Established in 1884, Howe’s approach to education included the integration of academics, physical readiness and leadership, and character development.
According to a board-issued statement, rising costs and declining enrollment for more than a decade were major factors in the decision to close the 75-student school, located in LaGrange County, just south of Sturgis.
The board said it will provide support and assistance to all families, faculty and staff in making alternative plans for next school year, and all academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs for 2018-2019 will be executed as scheduled.
