Single vehicle crash in Cass County injures driver

A medical condition likely caused a one-vehicle accident Tuesday in Cass County’s Newberg Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called at 6:30 a.m. to M-40, north of Bair Lake Road.

Investigators said 51-year-old Alfred Hooker was heading north on M-40 when he began to experience dizziness. Authorities said Hooker attempted to pull off to the side of the roadway but he lost control and the car ended up in a pond.

Hooker managed to exit the vehicle and was assisted to dry land by a passerby, deputies said. Hooker was taken to a nearby hospital for additional treatment.
