U.S. 12 construction project planned

Michigan Department of Transportation has announced it will begin reconstruction of U.S. 12 in Sturgis at the Michigan Southern Railroad crossing next month.

The project is to begin April 22 and will result in the closure of U.S. 12 to through traffic east of Jacob Street and west of North Clay Street during the two-month project.

Specific closure time will depend on weather conditions and construction progress. A detour route will be established on U.S. 12. The portion of U.S. 12 east of Jacob Street and west of North Clay Street will be open to local business traffic during the project period.

Businesses within the downtown district will remain accessible. City officials request community members to continue shopping and supporting downtown businesses especially through the construction period.
