Ann Marie (Bacon) Johnson died peacefully at her home on Corey Lake near Three Rivers on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.
Ann was born in 1926 in Talihina, Oklahoma, to Charles and Anna Bacon. Her mother and younger brother, Charles Junior, died when Ann was very young, and she was raised by her father and her grandmother, Susan Push. She grew up farming and hunting, and helping support her family. This was the beginning of a life of service to others and of standing on her own two feet.
She became a nurse, and joined the US Air Force, where she served as a flight nurse until being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
She was married for 55 years to the love of her life, Bill (“Doc”) Johnson, who preceded her in death in March 2019. Bill and Ann modeled love, companionship, and commitment every day of their lives.
Everyone who knew Ann was better for the experience. She was a loving mother and wife, and a loyal friend. She was fiercely independent, and lived a full and happy life with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Ernest Johnson and Jennifer (Robert) Kehoe, grandchildren Cody Johnson, Joseph Kehoe, and George Kehoe, and by nephew Mark (Paula) Teller and niece Nancy Faine. Special thanks to Suzie Truckey and Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan for caring for Ann.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Hohner Funeral Home, Three Rivers.
Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ann’s memory may be made to the Chahta Foundation, which supports education, health, and culture for the Choctaw people. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
