Car crashes into garage

One person was injured after a vehicle struck a detached garage last weekend in Cass County’s Porter Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday to an area on Sunset Boulevard, south of U.S. 12, to investigate a personal-injury crash.

The driver, 55-year-old John Hendrickson, of Union, was driving northbound when he lost control of his vehicle. It ran off the roadway and through a detached garage at a residence, Behnke said.

Hendrickson suffered a minor laceration on his forehead. The homeowner, Victor Dufour, 46, was standing inside the garage at the time of the incident. His injuries required treatment at Elkhart General Hospital.

Behnke said alcohol and marijuana were potentially contributing factors to the crash.
