Glen Oaks celebrates new grand concourse

After a year and a half of planning and eight months of construction, Glen Oaks Community College is staging the reveal of its new, $2.2 million grand concourse.

The day-long celebration starts at 8 a.m. Wednesday. Later, the school will offer lunch to its students to showcase some of the new menu options now available through the GO Café.

Then, from 4 to 6 p.m., the college will host a communitywide reception with business leaders and legislators in attendance. A ceremonial ribbon-cutting takes place at 5:15 p.m.

David Devier, Glen Oaks president, said the concourse serves as its student union. Features include a grand staircase; a new 100-seat dining area with a stage; a new kitchen featuring deep fryers, grills and a pizza oven; three meeting rooms; a computer/gaming space that will accompany the college’s ping-pong and pool tables in a recreation zone; and wide-band Wi-Fi.
