The St. Joseph County Road Commission was recognized during a recent gathering of members of the County Road Association of Michigan.
The IMPRESS Award was issued during the 2019 Highway Conference last month. IMPRESS acknowledges county road agencies for demonstrating innovation with special projects in communications, operations and collaboration.
The award captured by the Centreville-based agency recognizes the project “Post-Tensioning Timber Structures.” The project centered on a Heimbach Road structure originally built in 1969.
The goal of post-tension is to reestablish the strength of the bridge deck by getting pressure back between the boards. The two-week project involved four workers and cost less than $72,000.
