COA volunteers honored

St. Joseph County Commission on Aging honored a number of volunteers with an appreciation dinner last week at Sturges-Young Auditorium and Civic Center.

COA has about 200 volunteers who contribute time and talent to the organization.

Donna Dick of Mendon received an award for her work as a volunteer balance instructor, while Sharon Salisbury of Three Rivers was awarded for her volunteer efforts at the Three Rivers lunch site.

Chuck Thompson of Sturgis was honored for volunteering as a “Tuesday Toolman,” a group of volunteers that helps make minor repairs in seniors’ homes.

In addition, a group award was given to Jim Landis of Burr Oak and Rick Musser, Mary Ann Falco and Laura Klinger, all of Sturgis, for their efforts in COA’s Meals on Wheels program.

Regina Sanders of Sturgis was given the “Volunteer of the Year” award for her contributions in several departments within COA, including the lunch site and several of COA’s life-enrichment programs.
