Sturgis Schools discontinue Fawn River School lease

Sturgis Public Schools Board of Education voted Monday to discontinue the lease at the former Fawn River School and prepare the property for sale.

Ray Sterling, director of finance for the district, said it was recommended by the finance committee not to renew the lease at the property for the 2019-20 school year.

That lease expires June 30, at which time the district will move forward to prepare a listing for the sale of the property, using the same agent currently being used to sell Arden Park, Sterling said.

The property, at 69090 Carls Road, has been leased on a year-to-year basis since 2011, Sterling said. At that time, the district attempted to sell Fawn River, Arden Park and Park schools, but was unsuccessful.

Fawn River School was built in 1956. The 5,800 square-foot building sits on more than four acres.
