Centreville Schools discuss baseball field work

Centreville Public Schools Board of Education has voted to pay two invoices totaling $34,500 from Landscape Design Services.

The Holland-based company conducted drainage work at the high school’s baseball field. Board members Jackie Bowen and Larry Walton, however, dissented. They said they have concerns about the quality of the work performed by Landscape Design Services.

Superintendent Stephanie Lemmer said the district should offer payment as a show good faith. She said the company had been putting in long hours for the past two months and it had been the wettest May on record. The total contract for the project, which was supposed to be finished a month ago, is for $49,000.

Board members indicated the remainder will not be paid until the job is completed to the district’s satisfaction.
