Driver in fatal crash charged with multiple counts

Alcohol was a factor in a fatal accident in which a horse-drawn buggy was struck from behind by a pickup last week in Branch County’s Algansee Township.

Michigan State Police Sgt. Seth Reed said the driver of the pickup, 21-year-old Tyler Frye, of Angola, was charged with three counts of operating while intoxicated causing death, two counts of operating while intoxicated causing injury and one count of possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

Frye’s arrest stems from a fatal traffic crash that occurred Friday afternoon on Kelly Road, between the Hillsdale and Branch county line.

Five children and two adults were ejected from the carriage. Two children, ages 6 and 2, were pronounced dead at the scene and a third, a 4-year-old boy, died the following day.

An adult female sustained serious injuries.
