Michigan State Police troopers are investigating a felonious assault that occurred Tuesday in the 51000 block of Lang Road in Park Township.

According to a department media release, troopers were dispatched to a report of a suicidal subject who was threatening to kill law-enforcement officials.

As troopers arrived on scene, the suspect displayed a long gun out the second-floor window of a barn. The suspect pointed the rifle at troopers and St. Joseph County sheriff’s deputies and threatened to shoot them.

After approximately two hours, the suspect retreated into a field behind the residence in an attempt to hide. As he was being pursued, the suspect turned on deputies and displayed a metal pipe. He was subsequently tasered and taken into protective custody.
