Man crashes into police car in construction zone

A Mississippi man was cited for reckless driving after he was in an accident involving a state police vehicle in a construction zone on Interstate 94.

According to a department media release, troopers were on duty Wednesday night and positioned within the construction zone as part of a safety initiative to get motorists to slow down.

Around 11 p.m. on westbound I-94 in Emmett Township, the patrol car was fully marked, positioned on the shoulder, and had all emergency lights activated near the beginning of the work zone.

Troopers said Jessie Williams, 76, was driving a 2016 Chevy Silverado when he failed to merge with traffic at the beginning of the construction zone. His vehicle struck a construction barrel, went into the construction zone, and then struck the stationary patrol car. No injuries were reported, and damage was minor to both vehicles.
