Two arrested after fleeing police

Two Sturgis men were arrested after they led sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit Wednesday in Sturgis Township.

Sheriff Brad Balk said deputies were dispatched to the area of White School Road and Fawn River Road in response to a pair of motorcycles racing in the area.

Deputies spotted a dirt bike and a so-called “crotch rocket” in the area. The dirt bike was determined to be speeding in a residential area and deputies attempted to stop its driver.

Both motorcycles fled at a high rate of speed and were pursued by deputies. The suspects were determined to have parked their motorcycles in a garage in the area of Hazel Street and U.S. 12 and hid from pursuing deputies.

Deputies were alerted to the suspects’ location by bystanders in the area and able to execute a search warrant at a residence in the 25000 block of U.S. 12.

The 20-year-old suspect driving the dirt bike was taken into custody for fleeing/eluding police and was also ticketed for the original speeding infraction.

The 18-year-old suspect driving the crotch rocket was taken into custody for fleeing/eluding police and operating without a cycle endorsement.
