Ed Austin, 55

Edwin G. Austin (“Ed”), age 55, of Kalamazoo, made his transition from this life on Saturday, July 20, 2019. Ed was born on February 22, 1964, to Edwin R. and Mary J. (Carney) Austin. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Daniel B. Austin; his father Edwin R. Austin; and his mother Mary J. (Carney) Austin. Ed is survived by his sister, Roberta L. Austin (Mark Steckbeck) of Indianapolis; his brother Jerry R. Austin of Three Rivers, his niece Tara P. Lamons of North Charleston, SC, and his many aunts, uncles and cousins. Ed’s greatest joy in life was being a loving and supportive father to his son, Daniel. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and photography. Ed had a great love of companion animals, and was known to provide food, comfort and shelter to neglected and homeless animals wherever he lived. A Memorial Service will be held at the Wakelee United Methodist Church, 15921 Dutch Settlement Street, Marcellus, on Saturday, August 17th at 1:00 p.m. There will be a time for fellowship and a light lunch following the service. The family extends its gratitude to the following people and organizations for their professional and compassionate care and support of Ed, and whose commitment to Ed’s well-being made a positive impact on his quality of life during his final years: the entire staff at InterAct of Michigan, Inc., Kalamazoo, especially Marissa Cooney, Andy Dineen, Barbara Hutchins, Laura Chesbro, Mal Horein, and Kris Norris; Cleveland Gikurri, Caregiver, Skybridge Adult Foster Care, Kalamazoo; and Kathy Sanders and Penny Johnson, Caregiver, and former Caregiver, respectively, and the entire staff at Serenity Place, Three Rivers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate and support the local humane society or other animal welfare agencies in your area in memory of Edwin G. Austin.
