Sturgis sets open house for transmission line information

The city of Sturgis has set an open house to provide information to property owners along possible routes for the radial 69 kV transmission line into Sherman Township.

The event is scheduled for 5:30-7 p.m. Sept. 18 in Dresser Business Development Center at Glen Oaks Community College.

There are three possible routes proposed for the transmission line:

• Centerville Road, Featherstone Road and Balk Road.

• Centerville Road, Meyers Road and Balk Road.

• A route between Mintdale and Featherstone roads that does not follow an existing roadway, but is east of Taylor Road and west of where Meyers Road meets Mintdale Road.

Poles would be 75 to 90 feet tall, with horizontal insulators and crossarms.

There will be no formal presentation at the open house, but representatives from the city’s consultants will be present to answer general questions. None will be able to respond to specific questions since the line route has not been determined.
