Two suspects arrested after break-in

A Cass County K-9 team successfully tracked two men allegedly responsible for breaking into a residence last weekend in Penn Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called around 5 p.m. Sunday to the 19000 block of Hoffman Road in response to an aggravated-battery incident.

Deputies said two subjects entered a residence and got into a physical altercation with the homeowners, at which point a third subject discharged pepper spray at the homeowners.

The subjects fled on foot in an unknown direction. Cass County K-9 Faust tracked the suspects more than four miles from the residence.

A 19-year-old man from Edwardsburg and a 30-year-old woman from Niles were charged with resisting and obstructing police and aggravated assault. A third subject was also taken into custody for outstanding warrants.
