COA plans ribbon-cutting event

The St. Joseph County Commission on Aging is celebrating the opening of its new home in Three Rivers with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting event.

The fanfare takes place at 2 p.m. Friday at Rivers Enrichment Center and Residence, 1200 W. Broadway St. The residential units and COA headquarters were remodeled from the former Three Rivers Inn.

The residential component features 38 one-bedroom units and eight two-bedroom residences. The one-bedroom unit spaces are 700 square feet and cost $725 a month to rent. The two-bedroom offerings are 1,200 square feet in size, feature two bathrooms and rent for $850 a month.

The former hotel, which closed in November 2005, is on an eight-acre property on West Broadway Street and was built in the late 1960s.

Redevelopment of the building was budgeted to cost $4.6 million.
