County commission briefed on road work

The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners this week heard from John Lindsey, managing director of St. Joseph County Road Commission, regarding a work stoppage at Rieth-Riley.

Addressing commissioners Tuesday, Lindsey first provided an update on local road-paving projects within the county. He said all local road paving projects are completed, most of them with the allocation fund, where townships contribute a 50/50 match.

As for the primary road package, that work went to Rieth-Riley and included more than 20 miles of road, Lindsey said.

Crews from Rieth-Riley completed work on Colon Road before the strike, Lindsey said. He said crews had been working on Covered Bridge Road when the strike started. He hopes that when the situation is resolved, work can resume there and then crews can move on to Constantine Road, which is a local road, but also was in the contract with Rieth-Riley.
