A Sturgis man was arrested after attempting to steal a car last week from the St. Joseph County fairgrounds.
St. Joseph County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a vehicle shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday just outside the Centreville village limits for an equipment violation.
During their interaction with the driver, deputies discovered the vehicle had been stolen from the fairgrounds. Deputies made contact with the owner of the vehicle, who confirmed they were working at the fair and their vehicle was stolen.
The owner told authorities the doors were unlocked and keys left inside.
The 54-year-old suspect was charged with unlawfully driving away an automobile.
