Police patrol car struck in I-94 construction zone

A state police patrol car was struck while its driver was on patrol over the weekend along Interstate 94 in Calhoun County.

According to a department media release, the trooper was driving in the westbound lane at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Beadle Lake Road, which is exit No. 100.

The trooper had been patrolling a construction zone between mile markers 100 and 104 when he activated his lights in advance of turning into an “Authorized Vehicles Only” median crossover.

The trooper’s car was struck from behind by a vehicle whose driver, age and community of residence was not included in a department media release.

The second driver’s vehicle was damaged to the point that it was inoperable. He was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
