John Gill, 77

John Samuel Gill, age 77, of Sturgis, passed away Monday morning, October 21, 2019 at the Sturgis Hospital Emergency Room.
He was born May 20, 1942 in Wolcottville, Indiana son of the late Lee Raymond and Ruth Ellen (Pierce) Gill.
John resided in Sturgis since 1972 coming from Wolcottville.
On November 7, 1965 he married Nancy Ann Weber in Albion, Indiana.
John had been employed as a mechanic by Sherman Farm Equipment in Howe, Indiana for many years. Prior to joining Sherman’s John worked on the railroad and Miller’s Gas Station in Sturgis.
He enjoyed antiques, trains and loved tinkering and repairing things.
John is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 53 years: Nancy; one daughter: Debra Ann Gill of Sturgis; one son: Kirk Allen Gill of Sturgis; one grandchild: Robert Austin, Jr.; two sisters: Gloria Stockley of Salem, Wisconsin, Geveva Hull of Fremont, Indiana; one brother: Roger Witham of LaGrange, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter: Jessie Lee Gill; two grandchildren: Katie Lee and Michael Alexander; three sisters: Penny Gill, Karen Boyd and Carolyn Petticot; three brothers: Jerry Pierce, Ralph Witham, Harvey Gill.
A gathering of family and friends to honor and celebrate the life of John S. Gill will take place from 6 to 8pm Friday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091. In accordance with family wishes cremation will follow the visitation. Private burial of the ashes will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date.
