Judith E. Persons, age 74, of Burr Oak, passed away Monday evening October 21, 2019 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
She was born November 15, 1944 in Three Rivers.
She was a longtime resident of the Burr Oak, Sturgis area. Judy was a graduate of White Pigeon High School.
On February 8, 1975 she married Rickey Lee Persons in Sturgis. He preceded her in death February 24, 2007.
Following her marriage she worked side by side daily with the love of her life, Rick. They first worked together on a trash route and later owned and operated together Person’s Produce Farm and Pheasant Farm. She and Rick will forever be remembered for their excellent fresh produce, especially their famous sweet corn.
Judy excelled in athletics and was a member of a multiple time state championship women’s softball team in Sturgis. She was a true blue fan of the Michigan Wolverines and a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers.
All that knew her will forever remember her friendly personality and smile and always having time to visit with her many friends.
She is survived by one uncle and several cousins; her “adopted” family and close friends: James and Leslie Pappas, their children: Matthew (Wendy) Pappas and Clinton Pappas; her “shared” grandchildren: Lucas, Dillon, Zander, Haylee and Ryland Pappas all of Burr Oak, Jadyn, Blake, Braylan Darwin all of Sturgis, Chad (Stephanie) Clark and their children: Elizabeth, Ryan and Sam Rick all of Mendon.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Homer and Evelyn (Gearhart) Fisk and husband: Rick.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. Friends and family may call from 1 to 2pm Tuesday at the at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 where a memorial service celebrating the life of Judith E. Persons will begin at 2:00 Tuesday. Mr. Larry Wallman will officiate. In honoring what would be Judy’s request, attendees are asked to please dress casually, blue jeans and sweatshirts will be more than appropriate.
Private interment of the ashes will take place at Sturgis Memorial Gardens in Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations would be appreciated to Sturgis Hospital, 916, Myrtle Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091 or the animal charity of one’s choice.
