Man killed in incident with police

A Three Rivers man was shot and killed by a police officer last week in White Pigeon.

State police said the incident started around 12:30 a.m. Friday in Bristol, Ind., where officers from its police department were involved in a vehicle pursuit led by 46-year-old David Sanders.

The pursuit entered White Pigeon and concluded when Sanders allegedly drove his vehicle into a Bristol squad car. At this point, according to authorities, an officer fired shots at the suspect.

First-aid measures were conducted but Sanders died at the scene, state police said.

The Bristol officer, who suffered minor injuries, has been placed on administrative leave pending investigation, per department policy.

State police will investigate the shooting, at the request of Bristol police. Once the investigation is concluded, the matter will be turned over to St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office for an independent review of the officer’s actions.
